| Map Competition - SSC2007
A map competition will be run in conjunction with
SSC2007
Spatial Professionals are invited to participate
in the SSC2007 Map Competition.
Since 1982, the Mapping Sciences Institute
Australia has recognised outstanding achievement in the Mapping Sciences,
including through the judging and exhibition of a Map Competition. In
recognition of the role that the Mapping Sciences Institute has played in the
formation of the Spatial Sciences Institute, the SSC2007 organising committee
has decided to incorporate a map competition into the third biennial
international Spatial Sciences Conference.
The past 15 years have seen rapid
and innovative advances in the evolution of the Spatial Sciences, especially
with regard to the application of computer based technologies. Organisations
having a spatial component to their business are responding to the challenging
demands of measuring, managing and communicating geospatial information to
diverse clients, both internally and externally.
Subjects including
endangered species monitoring, watershed and wetlands mapping, wilderness
assessment, land cover classification, visual resource management, terrain and
structures analysis, demographic mapping and many more together with the
traditional utility, cadastral and topographic mapping areas are being
undertaken by members of our industry.
The widespread availability of
desktop mapping and spatial analysis applications has meant that these tasks are
now undertaken by practitioners from many varied disciplines. More than ever
before, it is important to foster and recognise the adoption of sound,
innovative and professional practices in the production and communication of
geospatial information, from which we as participants in an industry and as a
society can benefit.
This competition offers practitioners an opportunity to
show their best work, to demonstrate excellence in the design and execution of
map products, and to receive the acknowledgment of their peers.
An
information pack containing the entry details and judging criteria can be
accessed from the SSC2007 website. Please access the links to these pages and
get excited by the opportunities. All entries received for the competition will
be exhibited at SSC2007.
